We take you to the three remote stages and transport family, friends, and your support crew to spectating spots. |
That’s right, your maximum expense for all of the above would be only $1299 including food, lodging, and racing. You can bring a friend or family member for only $400 for the week. Drive yourself to the two remote stages (about one hour away) and save $100!
In order to encourage early registration, we are offering cabin lodging at the same price as tent camping. This is premium on-site lodging. It is bunkhouse format for the most part, but often includes indoor bathroom and kitchen facilities. You will have the choice of cabin, tent, or RV site at the time of registration, as space permits.
Once you have registered, we’ll call you to discuss your lodging and food preferences, as well as daycare and travel needs. Make sure your contact info on BikeReg.com is up to date!
See photos of each type of cabin and lodge.
Check our lodging page for links to hotel options.
Categories
Trans-Sylvania offers four broad categories and multiple age groups in each:
-
Solo: Men, Women, Men 40+, Men 50+, Singlespeed Men
-
Tandem category: Yes, that’s right. You can race a tandem mountain bike at Trans-Sylvania. We’ll offer subcategories here based on pre-registration numbers.
-
Duo: Men Open, Women Open, Mixed Open, Men 80+, Men 100+, Mixed 80+, Singlespeed —- In the duo category, team members are to remain within one minute of each other for the duration of the stage. This policy will be enforced by race officials at checkpoints throughout the week. The idea is that you ride together throughout each stage though there will obviously be small gaps between riders at times – but on duo teams those gaps should be small. Typically, winning duo teammates stay together and within sight of each other – in part because you don’t want to end up dropping a teammate only to have them suffer a mechanical or other issue which then causes confusion and perhaps more problems for your duo. Stay close, it’s more fun to have someone to talk to anyway.
-
Team: There are two divisions here: Open and Corporate. The Team Category provides an ideal way for a group of friends to compete together, perfect for those looking to ensure the fun factor stays high while keeping the fatigue factor in check. The corporate category is aimed at co-workers interested in a unique team challenge. The only difference between Open and Corporate is divisions is that to be considered a Corporate Team all members of the team must be employed the same company.
Teams will be scored based on the top three team riders on each day’s stage. Teams may be made up of three to six riders. Teams may start as many riders as they they want to on any given day. Teams are not penalized if all their riders do not race on a given day. This design allows teams to bring participants that may ride only two or three stages and others who may ride every stage. If a team member decides to take a day off in the middle of the week or another decides to ride more stages than originally planned this design allows this flexibility for the team. As long as the team finishes any three riders on every stage the team will remain in the race for the overall. Note, team members in these categories do not need to stay together during the race (as teammates do in the duo category) and may race at their individual pace, though this can be a great way to put together a completely directed and fully supported mountain bike vacation with your buddies.

Prize List
Stage winners
On a daily basis, stage winners in all categories containing five or more participants will receive medals and merchandise prizes. Prizes will be awarded three deep in each of these categories.
General Classification (GC) winners
General classification will be based on cumulative time for the entire event. GC winners in the following categories will receive cash prizes, granted there are at least five teams in each of the categories:
Payout will be according to the following schedule
For a minimum of 100 racers in the total field, $10,000 cash pot will be split as below. For each additional 100 racers, $5,000 will be added to the pot (E.g. 300 racers would yield $20,000 in cash). The cash pot is to be split as follows:
1st half of prize money is allocated based on how many teams in your category compared to teams in the event who are eligible for cash payout. E.g. If Duo open men represent 20% of teams in the event who are eligible for cash payout, 20% of the first half of the cash goes to that category
2nd half of prize money is allocated in the following fashion:
75% to open solo men and open solo women categories; to be split 50% to men, 50% to women
25% to remaining categories; 25% to each of: solo masters men, duo open men, duo open women, duo open mixed
The race promoters reserve the right to change the distribution of cash payout and size of the cash pot based on field and category size.
All GC winners in all categories will receive medals or trophies. The top three GC places in non-cash prize categories will receive merchandise awards.
